Atomic Real Baitz – Herring | 100mm Pre-Rigged Softbait Swimbait

The Atomic Real Baitz Herring is an ultra-realistic soft plastic swimbait designed to replicate the natural appearance and swimming behaviour of a herring. Developed for anglers targeting cautious and hard-to-catch predators, this lifelike baitfish imitation combines an anatomically accurate body profile, realistic holographic eyes and an enticing swimming action to trigger aggressive strikes.

Featuring a premium pre-rigged hook system with a top-mounted single hook and an additional belly treble hook, the Real Baitz Herring delivers ready-to-fish convenience straight out of the packet.

Its thick paddle tail generates a wide wobble and tight rolling body action, maintaining an attractive swimming presentation even on exceptionally slow retrieves. Combined with its precision-balanced 28g internal weighting, the lure sinks naturally in a horizontal posture with a subtle downward angle, closely imitating a stunned or dying baitfish.

Whether fishing coastal reefs, estuaries or inshore structures, the Atomic Real Baitz Herring is an excellent choice for targeting snapper, kingfish and other aggressive saltwater predators in New Zealand waters.

Swimming Action & Fishing Techniques

Wide Wobble. Tight Body Roll. Natural Horizontal Sink.

The Atomic Real Baitz Herring is designed to produce an enticing swimming action even when retrieved at very slow speeds.

Its thick paddle tail creates a wide, rhythmic wobble, while the body generates a tight rolling movement that closely resembles a naturally swimming or distressed herring.

The precision-balanced 28g internal weighting allows the lure to sink horizontally with a slight downward angle during pauses. This creates a particularly convincing presentation of a stunned or dying baitfish dropping through the water column, making it an excellent option for targeting snapper feeding on the drop.

Pro Tips for Better Results

• Tip 1 – Use a Loop Knot: Tie a loop knot directly to the tow point to allow unrestricted movement and maximise the lure's natural rolling and wobbling action.
• Tip 2 – Slow-Roll Retrieve: Use a slow, steady retrieve to take full advantage of the thick paddle tail, which continues producing an enticing swimming action even at low speeds.
• Tip 3 – Twitch and Pause: Introduce occasional downward rod twitches to accelerate the lure, followed by a short pause to let it sink naturally. This imitates the unpredictable movement of an injured baitfish and can trigger reaction strikes.
• Tip 4 – Fish the Drop: Pay close attention during the sinking phase, as snapper and other predators may strike while the lure is descending through their feeding zone.
• Tip 5 – Maintain Your Hooks: After saltwater use, rinse both the single hook and belly treble hook thoroughly with fresh water and dry before storage to help minimise corrosion and maintain hook performance.
